The Fire Queen Book Review

I can say this book was kinda better than the first book. Well, when I say it was better, the romance seemed better but at the same time, the author just included another love interest where there wasn’t really much point to doing it. 
In November 2017, I posted my review of The Hundredth Queen, and if you have read it then you might see there were good and bad parts of that book. For this one, all of the points I made for the first one seemed to have either disappeared or gotten worse slightly. Honestly, I feel like this series is going in a good direction but it’s just suffering from the whole generic side of YA fiction and having a lot of it, it is quite predictable with the things that happen in the story.

As I’m trying to be no spoilers in my reviews, I will try and not say anything in too much detail if it relates to things that happened in book 1. However, as it is a sequel I can’t help it if I do say anything that does relate to things that do happen in The Hundredth Queen. So beware of possible spoilers that will be in this review.

The main aspect of this book that I enjoyed the most was the fact that this book started right after book 1. I really hate it when sequels are set a few months after the events of book two. The main reason is that I like the feeling of the story moving smoothly between each of the instalments. I really hope the next book in this series will have the same effort as this book.

I really liked seeing the difference between the Bhuta and how exactly they use their powers. Obviously, there would be rifts between each of the different types of Bhuta due to their nature of there powers. I liked it how all of the Bhuta power was connected with the original four elements; fire, water, air and earth.

I really hated the rift between Kalinda and Deven. I really hate it. After everything that went on in The Hundredth Queen, I can see how it would happen. But the way it did just make me think how it always happens in YA novels. I also hated how the author included another love interest for Kalinda. I just HATE it when authors do this. Maybe this ship will sink in the next book and Deven can just come in.

I really liked the mix of all of the new characters that were added into book/story. None of them annoyed me! That’s so hard to be done when new characters are added. I have a love and hate relationship with characters. Some of them just really irritate me and others just don’t do anything for me. But I really liked all of the characters that were added. I really can’t wait to see what will happen to them in the next instalment in this series.

The only character that really annoyed me was Deven. Honestly, I have no idea why love interests get annoyed when something big happens. I can see that happening, but honestly what Deven did was just annoying. I really hope his character redeems himself properly in the next book. If he doesn’t, I’ll just lose hope for him.

I’m really happy Jaya wasn’t forgotten while Kalinda was trying to deal with the problems at hand. The missing link of Jaya within this work can be seen in whatever Kalinda did. Especially with the friendship between Natesa, Kalinda isn’t the same after being away from Jaya.

After everything, I think was good after everything. There were other points about these books that I would have enjoyed to touch upon but I didn’t want to make it seem like a long review. I might try to include another post about this book once I have reread it for the last book in the series.

So that’s my review for The Fire Queen. I did enjoy this book and I really can’t wait to see what will happen in the next book in this series.
