Reading books can be more exciting than most people know. It can feel like a real-life experience few truly understand the value of. It might not seem like it, but bookworms have secrets just like everyone else. 

They Live in Their Imaginations 

Imagination can take a person to faraway lands or inspire fantasies of romantic love. Readers have a chance to learn about unicorns, ride colorful dragons or be close to famous fictional characters. Sometimes they might fall in love with one of the characters for their bravery or charm. Reading helps people dream of a better world. For booklovers, this feeling is better than reality. Being realistic can seem ordinary to someone who understands how far reading a well-written book can take them. 

Reading Helps Them Escape Reality 

The truth is that life is cruel. On the positive side of things, reading can come to a bookworm’s rescue by giving them an outlet to escape reality. Instead of dwelling on negative thoughts, participating in unnecessary arguments and wasting time on technology, bookworms delve into their imaginations to get away. This often keeps them out of the trouble that plenty of people become involved in.  

Books Provide an Outlet from Depression 

Someone who lives with a mental health issue may find it difficult to be positive. Books are therapeutic for the emotions they provoke in the reader. If a person is depressed, they can read a humorous book to have something to laugh at. Inspiring books about heroes might be motivation for someone with suicidal thoughts. Delving into a favorite book after a stressful day at work or school can help a person sleep deeper at night. Everyone needs a way to cope with their problems. 

Reading is Better Than Socializing 

Social people don’t usually appreciate books in the same way bookworms do. It’s time they realize that bookworms do have real lives. Reading is one activity that’s educational and can help a person become a better writer. This can lead to a career as an author, editor, bookstore owner, librarian or other lucrative careers. Attending parties can be petty compared to the intelligent lives readers know. Deep topics on animal welfare, human rights and the environment can be meaningful and educational. People gain insight from books about how to have a meaningful life. Social life is often shallow and can become a waste of time. 

They’re Proud to be Bookworms 

Bookworms can be labelled as nerds, but this doesn’t bother them. They take pride in rushing to buy the next book in a series. Many consider the library to be their true home. They admire authors and feel proud to be involved in their projects. In the mind of a reader, everyone should be able to enjoy books. Bookworms don’t care if people assume they’re boring, because they know they have vast knowledge and wisdom. 

Bookworms may not always have the experiences numerous people tend to brag about, but this is because they don’t feel the need to. There’s so much more to books than just a cover with pages and words imprinted on them. Books take someone on a journey that teaches them lessons and gives them a way to get away from the real world.
