I’m here with another Meet the Blogger! Today I will be doing a Q&A with Michelle, the owner of Michelle likes Things. So here it is!
Introduce Yourself!
M: Hi! My name is Michelle and I’m a 27-year-old ecologist from The Netherlands. Growing up at a boarding school left me with a lot of free time and not many options to fill it. Thankfully books were the best things that could have happened to me, and I couldn’t imagine my life without them.
How did you get into book blogging?
M: I’ve spent a lot of time on Tumblr, which isn’t the same as a blog, but it does overlap a lot. When I started college I slowly got out of there because it was just taking too much time away from my studies. Last December I toyed with the idea of starting an actual book blog because I wanted to do more things in the bookish community. After I joined a Discord server full of book bloggers, I made up my mind and got to work and voila! Michelle Likes Things was born!
What is your favourite thing about your blog?
M: I love that I’m able to do different things, I’m not solely a, but review series and movies as well. It’s a fun way to interact with a lot of different people!
Have you been inspired to blog by another blogger and/or Youtuber?
M: Not yet, maybe I’ll be inspired to do certain blog posts, but we’ll see.
How do you decide what blog posts to do next?
M: I have a few blog ideas that I ‘created’ myself. I put it like that since I don’t know everyone in the community and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if someone else did the same thing already. But those posts have a standard spot in my schedule, and the rest is filled up with reviews or other ideas I get during the day.
Do you look at other blogs to get inspiration for the content of your blog?
M: Sometimes I find a great tag or meme that I love doing as well, but I don’t look at blogs for the sole reason of finding content.
If you could have given yourself advice to yourself before you started blogging, what would have that advice been?
M: Make sure you have loads of ideas – and maybe take more time to find a theme that’s not too general. I have the Sela theme, which loads of people have and even though I like it, I don’t want to be too similar to other people. So if I had that information, I probably would have done it differently.
If you could meet one author who would it be?
M: I would love to meet Leigh Bardugo. I love her books and I find her outlook on life absolutely amazing.
What are your 3 top genres to read?
M: Sci-fi, Fantasy and Contemporary.
What book are you most excited about reading next?
M: Aurora Rising! I ordered a book subscription box that is including it, and I have an amazing friend in America who is willing to send it to me so I can get my hands on the Illuminae novella (Thank you, Sam!).
What is the most recent favourite book you’ve read?
M: Descendant of the Crane! I came across is because a couple of people in the Discord server were raving about it, and after reading the synopsis I requested an eARC on NetGalley. The first 15% was a bit tough on me, I guess it’s because a lot of foreign words were used and I couldn’t find an explanation for most of them. But I persisted and I absolutely loved it! It’s definitely my favourite book of 2019 and is in my top favourite books of all time as well.
Do you have any hobbies outside of blogging/reading?
M: I do! I’m an ecologist and work with natural law, aside from that I monitor bats, for my job and as a volunteer. Seeing hundreds of bats fly every summer is absolutely amazing. Aside from that I love watching movies and tv shows – I don’t sleep very much and my nightly hours are usually filled with lots and lots of episodes. I also have a bookstagram (michelle_reads) that I love taking pictures for, I like taking pictures in general, also when I’m out enjoying nature, but being able to capture the beauty of books is extra special!
That is the end of my Q&A with Michelle from Michelle likes Things. Thank you to Michelle for participating in this Q&A. It was very fun to do. Also, check out her blog, it looks amazing.
