So, this is a discussion every booknerd has every time they read a new book or rereading a favourite. For me, I really hate it when my book gets a broken spine or if there is a crease on the spine.
I know some people who love the feel of broken spines as they make the books feel more loved and you know you have read it or not. I agree with them on those two points. Yes, if the spines aren’t broken, its quite hard to remember if you have read it or not. That’s why I had trouble knowing the true amount of my TBR after my September book haul.
I don’t know why but I love the feel of a books spine unbroken. They feel clean and untouched. Just rereading that sentence makes me think whether I am normal or not aha. But honestly I think unbroken books look better than broken ones. Don’t get me wrong, I do have some broken spines, but the most of my library are unbroken.
What type of reader are you; do you like to break spines or keep them nice and smooth? Comment below and let me know.

I get mad when new books arrive with creased spines. I don’t know why since the minute I get to reading the book I’m cracking that spine instantly. I feel like if I didn’t personally get to do it I was somehow denied lol

I’m kinda OCD with my books. I prefer them to look untouched. Lol.

Unbroken. Although I do love when a book feels read.

I hate when I buy a new book and its blemished, if I did it that is one thing, but not to get it like that. I commute so sometimes by books get a bit banged up and if they are one of my favorites I have been known to rebuy them and gift the one I read to someone else. 🙂

It’s strange because when I order new books I’m super protective over them but then when I order used books I love the fact they look so used…

Oh, gosh I don’t even remember the last “real” book I read! I’ve been strictly e-reader for the last 8 or so years.

I am happy to buy 2nd hand books so a little use is often evident. I never intentionally crease but a little is inevitable with me.

Unbroken spines. They just look nicer on the shelf that way. And broken spines are awkward to read because the pages are all clumped on one side or the other of the broken spine.

I don’t think about it, really. I can tell you though from working in a library, books fall apart very fast once the spine is broken.
