School will forever be the place where you read books you don’t really want to read for your lessons. For example, when I was studying English Literature, I had to read Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck over and over again. Even though I hated that book during my course, Of Mice and Men is one of the top contemporary classics that I have in my library.Â
When the topic of required reading came up for this topic, I knew I had to do it. All of my required reading books are still one of my top books to go back to even though the feeling of dread is still faintly there. The main purpose of this topic is to share some of the books that we believe should be put forward as required reading for school. Here is my take on this topic;
- 1984 by George Orwell – this was actually required reading for me when I was doing my last course. Even though I haven’t read this book fully, I still think this is a key book for everyone to read – especially with what’s happening currently around the world.Â
- The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf
- The Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo
- A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. SchwabÂ
- The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
- The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
- The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie
- Half a King by Joe Abercrombie
- Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence
- A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
- Outlander by Diana Gaboldon
- The Changeling’s Journey by Christine Spoors (click here to see review)
- The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Adhieh
- Harry Potter by J.K Rowling
- Alive by Scott Sigler
- After by Anna Todd
So that’s all of the books that I believe should be apart of the required reading for schools. Some of these are fiction and some not. All of these books offer something completely different things when you compare one to another. Each is unique and makes learning about things in a fun way.Â
If you have read any of these books, comment below and let me know what you thought of them. If you could decide what books you would read for required reading, comment down below and let me know what books they would be.Â
