Everybody loves retelling. Either if its mythology or a fairy-tale retelling. We as readers know those books who have become popular due to the type of retelling they are. Fairy tale retellings have become very popular over the past few years. We can see it when these authors are putting their own twists to the stories we have loved and grown up with. So I thought it might be a great thing to give you guys some recommendations of retellings that we have loved reading and some mythology books we can recommend to you guys. So let’s get this recommendations post started:
The ones we have read:
- The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. Retelling of A Thousand and One Arabian Nights.
- Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh. Retelling of Mulan.Â
- Heartless by Marissa Meyer. Retelling of the Queen of Heart from Alice in Wonderland
- Cinder by Marissa Meyer. Retelling of Cinderella with a SciFi twist.
- Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. A mix retelling Red Riding Hood and Beauty and the Beast.
- Cress by Marissa Meyer. Retelling of Rapunzel
- Winter by Marissa Meyer. Retelling of Snow White
- Uprooted by Naomi Novik. Retelling of Beauty and the Beast with a dark fantasy twist.
- Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini. Retelling of Helen of TroyÂ
- Promise of Shadows by Justina Ireland. Not a retelling but has got good aspects of Greek mythology.
- A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston Retelling of A Thousand and One Arabian Nights.
- Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge. Retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
- A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas. Retelling of Sleeping Beauty of what happens when Beauty wakes from her sleep.Â
- A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. Retelling of Beauty and the Beast with a Fae twist.
- A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. Retelling of Hades and Persephone with a Fae twist.
The ones we yet to read:
- The Shadow Queen by C. J. Redwine. Retelling of Snow White.
- Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman. Retelling of famous Norse Mythology tales.
- Eon by Alison Goodman. Retelling of Mulan mixed with dragons.
- Splintered by A. G. Howard. Retelling of Alice in Wonderland.
- Vengeance Bound by Justina Ireland. Not a retelling but got good Greek mythology aspects to it.Â
- Abandon by Meg Cabot.
The ones we want to read:
- Hunted by Megan Spooner. Retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
- Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge. Retelling of Little Red Riding Hood.
We both love retellings. As you can see, we both have read lots of them and we still have lots of retellings that we still want to read.
