So recently I realised I have stopped doing something I did since I started to get into reading. I have stopped watching BookTube. BookTube is something I have enjoyed watching over the past few years; especially before I made my own book blog. But recently, something has just clicked and I just don’t find it something I can just watch anymore. So here are some reasons why I have stopped watching BookTube.
Please note, these are my opinions about the subject, and if you do disagree with me then that’s okay. So please do not hate on what I have said within this blog.
BookTube is Kinda Boring for Me Now
After trying to watch some of my favourite BookTubers I have just stopped watching their videos after a few minutes. I love the content these BookTubers releases and how they can get in front of a camera to film these videos, ’cause that takes something. But after trying and trying again, I have just realised it isn’t for me anymore.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand why people watch BookTube and the types of videos people make for BookTube are still entertaining and I can see how they connect with other bookish people and the communities. But recently I feel like I have disconnected with the BookTube community.
This can be because I have taken a large amount of time where I stopped going on YouTube for months and I missed lots of videos…maybe. Or it might be because I have found other ways to find out when new releases are coming out. Either way, no matter the type of videos any BookTuber releases, I still find it really hard to connect with the things they are talking about. Whether it is a review for a book I enjoyed or a simple book haul video.Â
I don’t know whether I have either just gotten to the point where I need a straight to the point video where the Booktuber just talks about the books they recently got instead of all the fluffy talk. Or with how little time I have to spare *thank you work* that I just don’t have time to watch these videos? Whatever it is, BookTube is definitely something else to me now and I’m not connecting with it.
Positives for Watching BookTube
Even though the title of this blog and maybe the first paragraph is kinda negative about Booktube, I still really enjoyed it when I was into it. BookTube is definitely a way that can allow a complete bookish newbie to be fully swept into the bookish community faster. Here are some of the top reasons why BookTube is something everyone should be watching.
Allows you to connect with other book lovers:
Aside from reading bookish blogs (like this one), BookTube is another way to connect with people who have read the same books as you and allows you to connect with them through different forms. This can be done through live videos with other BookTubers when discussing a topic or a book club you are apart of.
Let You Find Out About New Releases Quicker:
Every BookTuber I have seen are very up to date on any popular anticipated releases that are coming up within the next year or so. If you didn’t know it was coming out, then I’m sure your favourite BookTuber knew about it.
Inspiration for Book Bloggers:
This is definitely one of the top things I think any book blogger might agree with. BookTube allows Book Bloggers to get inspiration from the things BookTubers do. This includes book tags and bookish discussion posts.
Sparks Conversations Between People Within the Bookish Community:
Whether this is about a special edition of a book or about a new release, BookTube offers a chance for a lot of different conversations that can occur within the comments section. This can be between either two people who have been into books for a long time or between newbies. It’s definitely something that can bring people together on one subject.Â
Favourite BookTubers to Watch
I am ready to say goodbye to Booktube. But before I do, I wanted to share out some of my favourite BookTubers I have watched in my many years watching it. These BookTubers has either gotten me to read some amazing books that instantly became one of my all-time favourites or have gotten me through the many feels I know many people have read.
So, for now, it is time to say goodbye to these BookTube and these amazing BookTubers. I have no clue whether or not I might start watching again. I kinda hope so, maybe down the line I will revisit it to see how I can see and support the new BookTubers.
till next time readers

I barely watch booktube nowadays too, I think I prefer to get my bookish content from blogs. The one channel I watch most is booksandquills and I think it’s because her content is quite varied. I’m not sure when the shift happened, but I’m in the same boat.

Yea same. I used to watch a lot of when I was getting into the whole bookish community but I think as I have been in it for the past few years I don’t need it anymore. I might check that booktuber out if I have time aha.

Fun post! I actually don’t watch booktube often because I feel like it is such a time commitment — it is a lot faster for me to read a post than to watch a 20+ minute video. Nothing against booktube at all and I have all the respect for the effort put into those videos, but I prefer to read my bookish content most of the time.

I have never gotten into Book Tube and sometimes I wish I would have. I have watched it once or twice and I agree – it isn’t really something for the seasoned reader.

I do think that time is a big thing for me not getting more into booktube. I just waste so much time on the net as it is I don’t usually go on youtube unless I’m looking something up like a how to video…but! I do like skimming it every now and again and I appreciate you including a list of booktubers you enjoy1

I used to watch a ton of BookTube before I started blogging, whilst I don’t watch it all that much anymore, I do prefer more reading vlogs from booktubers. I just don’t have the time or energy to sit and watch 10+ minute videos about books they loved/rec right now, however give me a 10+ minute vlog by my fav booktubers and I’m there xD I dunno it’s weird
