I’m here with another Meet the Blogger! Today I will be doing a Q&A with Lauren, owner of Shooting Stars Mag. So here it is!
Tell us a bit about yourself?
L: My name is Lauren. I have a BA in English Literature and an MS in Library Science. I’ve always loved reading, and I honestly can’t remember ever learning…I just know I’ve almost always been reading. I never took dance classes growing up, but I’ve been curious, so I finally took some as an adult and now I’m in a hip-hop and tap class and I love it!Β
How did you get into book blogging?
L: I actually didn’t start my blog as a book blog. It was mostly about music at first, but it didn’t take long to start adding in books and other forms of entertainment. I began the blog with an online friend back in August 2007 – so yes, I’ve been blogging (on the same blog) for almost 11 years now. I’m the main person behind the blog now, though I have had people help me here and there.Β
What is your favourite thing about your blog?
L: I really love getting to know people from all over the world. I’ve been lucky to meet some of these people in person, but even those I “only” know online have made this blogging journey a treat. I don’t think I’d still be blogging if not for all the connections and friends I’ve made.Β
Have you been inspired to blog by another blogger and/or Youtuber?
L: Not to get started, but through the years, I’ve been inspired by blogs I love!
How do you decide what blog posts to do next?
L: When it comes to book reviews, a lot of times it depends on when the book is coming out as I try and post the review the week it’s released. If it’s a book that’s already out, or some other type of post, I kind of just pick and choose. Sometimes I end up switching the day to fit something else in, but in general, it’s a mix. I blog about five days a week right now so it’s a lot to fill up!Β
Do you look at other blogs to get inspiration for the content of your blog?
L: I don’t specifically look at blogs for inspiration, but I do find myself inspired by other bloggers all the time. It’s great to see what features people come up with, or just what types of books they are featuring.Β
Where would you like to see your blog at the end of this year?
L: I’ve been blogging for such a long time, but I’d still really love to continue growing my blog. I don’t have a set number, but if I had more monthly views at the end of the year than the beginning, I’d be happy!Β
If you could meet one author who would it be?
L: Oh gosh, this is tough! I think I’d go with J.K. Rowling just because I grew up on the Harry Potter books and I love all her other books too. Plus, she’s probably one of those authors I’d never have a chance to actually meet, so if miraculously happened, that would be amazing.Β
What are your 3 top genres to read?
L: Mystery/thriller, anything LGBT+, and contemporary.Β
What book are you most excited about reading next?
L: I have a lot of books that I’ve owned for awhile that I need to read, like Winter by Marissa Meyer. As for upcoming books, I can’t wait for What If It’s Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli.
What is the most recent favourite book you’ve read?
L: Most recent? I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga. Yes, it’s an old one, but I’m just now getting to this series and I LOVE It.Β
Do you have any hobbies outside of blogging/reading?
L: Yes! Like I said earlier, I take tap and hip-hop classes. I also really love working on my planner and decorating it. I’m a big fan of movies. I’m also a big crafty person, even if I’m not the best at it!Β
That is the end of my Q&A with Lauren from Shooting Star Mags. Thank you to Lauren for participating in this Q&A. It was very fun to do. Also, check out her blog, it’s filled with so much content I don’t know where to begin to describe whats on it.
